PHYSICAL THERAPY in the Water or on Land:
Aquatic Physical Therapy is a therapeutic exercise program prescribed by a physician to meet specific needs of the individual patient. It is not swimming nor is it merely performing standard therapy exercises in the water. For many injuries and/or conditions, water physical therapy can be very beneficial and less painful than land therapy. An ability to swim is not required.
A physician's prescription is required.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:
Therapists provide evaluation and treatment for adults with physical and sensory concerns that impact their daily routine. Treatment services are provided with the goal of the client being able to perform daily living skills as independently as possible.

THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE:
Aquatic exercise can help in a variety of ways for many physical challenges, special conditions, and fitness needs. Aquatic exercise classes are designed to address these needs and to develop the six basic components of exercise: balance, strength, endurance, agility, flexibility, and coordination. A wide array of aqautic exercise classes are offered for various fitness levels and are crafted to address a variety of conditions.

Back in Action - For people with back problems. Strength, flexibility, posture, and endurance are stressed.

Moving Ahead to Fitness - for Parkinson's, status post stroke, status post head trauma, brain abnormality, or balance deficiency patients. Relaxation, mild exercise, coordination, flexibility, water walking, and speech activities. A short evaluation/orientation is needed before enrolling in this class. Call for an appointment.

Special Needs Instructional - Basic water skills along with therapeutic exercises for children and young adults. A form, obtained from aquatics office, must be completed before participating.

Diabetic Class - Mild exercise in the water with a brief after-class meeting to test blood sugar levels.

Stretch and Tone - This water exercise class will incpororate 20 minutes of toning using a variety of resistance equipment combined with 20 minutes of relaxation, stretching, yoga, etc.

Aqua Fit - This water exercise class will keep you moving!! The class works on  coordination, cardiovascular endurance, strength, toning, and flexibility. A variety of equipment will be used to improve your levels of fitness.

Pain/Back Management - Ease your pain by improving core strength, posture, flexibility and general conditioning while working in a warm water setting. Work on relaxation and the mind/body connection. (Especially helpful for chronic pain syndrome, back pain/weakness, fibromyalgia).

Deep Water - While wearing a flotation device, you will do activities in the water without touching the bottom. Level is considered moderate intensity. POOL 2 (Limit 2 classes per week)

Water Yoga - Start your week with this calming, rejuvenating class. Improve your flexibility, balance, muscle tone, breathing patterns, and state of mind. Sure to help you cope with the upcoming week!

Parkinson's - This water exercise class is designed for people with Parkinson’s Disease. The focus of the class will be to enhance posture control, improve body strength, balance, functional mobility, cardio/respiratory fitness and encourage social interaction. A short eval/orientation is needed before enrolling in this class. Call for an appointment.

Joint Motion - A slow range of motion exercises and water walking. Approved by the National Arthritis Association.

Special Needs Open Swim - These times are for children and families and/or small groups (up to 5) with special needs. Individuals may attend, but exercising may be difficiult during these times because of the play/fun type of atmosphere.

Independent Exercise - These times are for individuals with varying needs (i.e. arthritis, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, cognitive delays, general fitness, etc.) who need or want to exercise on their own. Please note that some exercise times are for adults only, while others are open to all ages. Playing and splashing are discouraged.

As a service to all of our patrons, we provide FREE conslutation with our physical therapists to discuss your concerns. You do not need a doctor's prescription for this consultation. Sign up for a specific time with our receptionist.

Monday-Thursday 6:30 AM - 8:00 PM
Friday 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Payment is due at the time of registration. If beginning in the middle of a session, the cost will be pro-rated.

CREDIT POLICY
Credit will be given only for the following reasons (no exceptions):
-Classes are cancelled
- A valid medical excuse from a doctor

Credit may only be carried over for one session.

Missing classes due to other reasons such as minor sickness, colds, or vacations will not be credited. All credit for classes missed must be approved by the Aquatics Director or Assistant Director. Class make-ups are allowed, please call ahead for available openings.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Swim suit or other appropriate clothing (shorts and t-shirt are acceptable)
  • Towel and soap
  • Lock for locker if you are bringing valuables with you
  • Aqua shoes (optional)

FOR EVERYONE'S HEALTH & SAFETY
If any of the following conditions exist, please reschedule your time (entry to the pool will not be permitted):

  • Open sores
  • Diarrhea
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Bowel incontinence (babies should wear rubber pants with snug leg openings)
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Blood infections
  • Uncontrolled seizure activity
  • Tracheotomies
  • Menstruation without internal protection
  • Fever
  • Infectious diseases
  • Fluctuating blood pressure not controlled by medication

DIRECTIONS
C.A.R.E. is easy to find at Cerebral Palsy, Inc. Exit South off Highway 172 onto Webster Avenue to Broadview. Look for the Aquatics (blue) entrance at the west end of the building. Both regular and handicap parking is available near this entrance. If these spaces are filled, park in the lot south of the building. Wheelchairs will be available at this entrance for your use during your pool time.
